What to watch for
- Sweet potato Low risk
A starchy root vegetable that supplies carbohydrate, fiber and beta-carotene. Potatoes and sweet potatoes were common in the grain-free diets reported in the FDA DCM investigation. - Coconut oil Low risk
A highly saturated plant fat. It adds calories, and its health claims for dogs are not well supported; large amounts can upset the gut. - Natural flavor Low risk
Flavoring from natural sources. Normally safe, but the term can hide which animal or plant it came from, which matters for allergies.
What it does well
- Named meat first
First ingredient is beef.
Ingredients
Beef, Oatmeal, Barley, Millet, Sweet Potatoes, Coconut Oil, Pumpkin, Flaxseed, Dried Bacillus Coagulans Fermentation Product, Natural Flavor, Blueberries, Beef Bone Broth, Mixed Tocopherols (a preservative), Rosemary Extract.
What the label cannot tell you
