What to watch for
- Active recall 2026-07-02
Potential foreign plastic contamination - Artificial colors Moderate risk
Unspecified synthetic dyes. They are there for the owner's eye, not the dog's nutrition. - Meat by-products Low risk
Clean parts of slaughtered mammals other than muscle meat, such as organs. AAFCO says by-products can be nutritious, but the label does not say which animal they came from, so you cannot steer around an allergy. - Wheat gluten Low risk
Wheat protein used to bind wet foods and raise the protein number. Less complete than animal protein. - Wheat flour Low risk
Ground wheat, common in treats and biscuits as a binder. Wheat is a known allergen for some dogs. - Natural flavor Low risk
Flavoring from natural sources. Normally safe, but the term can hide which animal or plant it came from, which matters for allergies. - Copper sulfate Low risk
A source of copper, an essential trace mineral. Some breeds accumulate copper in the liver, and vets have raised concern that some dog foods supply more than dogs need. - Salt Low risk
Salt supplies sodium and chloride, which dogs need. Pet foods use small amounts; high salt is mainly a concern for dogs with heart or kidney disease.
What it does well
- High protein 44.4%
30% or more on a dry-matter basis.
